The Baxters 2024 tv series review

Prime Video has acquired the family drama series “The Baxters” from LightWorkers Media, the faith and family-focused company founded by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, which is now owned by Amazon MGM Studios following Amazon’s acquisition of LightWorkers’ parent company, MGM.

The 10-episode series, adapted from Karen Kingsbury’s best-selling book series, is executive produced by Roma Downey, who also stars as the family matriarch, Elizabeth Baxter, alongside Ted McGinley as John Baxter. “The Baxters,” set to stream exclusively on Prime Video in spring 2024, was filmed in 2018. Initially intended for LightWorkers Media’s platform, it is also executive produced by Will Packer.

The series follows Elizabeth and John Baxter and their five adult children. Season 1 focuses on their daughter, Kari, who discovers the shocking truth that her professor husband, Tim, has been having an affair with one of his college students. As Kari’s marriage is put to the test, she leans on her faith and family to explore if love is a choice and if her relationship can be salvaged. In this deeply emotional faith-based journey, the Baxter family must unite to navigate life’s challenges.

Roma Downey expressed her excitement about bringing inspirational content to Prime Video, stating, “With over 25 million fans of the Baxter series books, we know audiences are going to love this family drama brought to life.”

The additional cast includes Ali Cobrin as Kari Baxter Jacobs, Masey McLain as Ashley Baxter, Josh Plasse as Luke Baxter, Cassidy Gifford as Reagan Decker, Reilly Anspaugh as Erin Baxter, Emily Peterson as Brooke Baxter, and Brandon Hirsch as Tim Jacobs.

The rights to Karen Kingsbury’s “The Baxter Family” novel series were acquired by Downey and LightWorkers Media eight years ago. Kingsbury expressed her delight at the series finding a home on Prime Video, stating, “Many millions of readers are going to be thrilled over this news. It is a dream come true.”

Produced by LightWorkers Media, Will Packer Media, and Haven Entertainment, the series is helmed by showrunner and executive producer Jessie Rosen. Additional executive producers include Kevin Mann, Brendan Bragg, and Jaime Primak Sullivan, with Karen Kingsbury and Rick Christian serving as consulting producers.
