Plastic surgery is an optional procedure in which a part of your face or body is changed or improved. If you are considering plastic surgery, make sure you know what that surgery includes before you decide.
Dr Sheher Bano, consultant plastic surgeon and member of the British Association of Plastic Surgery (BAPRAS), says that plastic surgery performed on the normal appearance is not desirable. He also added that if someone was born with a big nose, that might be normal, but he does not want to.
Plastic surgery performed to alter your appearance carries the same risks as any other surgery. Therefore, it is imperative that you think carefully before deciding to perform this procedure.
The most common plastic surgery today is chest surgery [augmentation or bracing]. After that it can be said that the most popular procedure is eyelid surgery, which is a form of facial rejuvenation, which makes the face appear younger. Also among these surgeries are rhinoplasty, liposuction (by removing unwanted fat through a surgical tube), laparotomy (by removing skin and fat from the abdomen – also known as a tummy tuck) and vaginoplasty (by reshaping the lips that surround vagina).

Is plastic surgery safe?
Cosmetic surgery is not a risk-free procedure. It carries the same risks associated with any surgery, including infection and stroke, in addition to all the risks associated with a particular procedure. According to Professor Kay, the risks of wound infection, bleeding and scarring can include, but these risks are rarely life-threatening or long-lasting.
After the surgery, bruises and swelling will appear, which may take weeks and months to subside, depending on the surgery that was performed. Some surgeries may require – as with any operation that includes – antibiotics.
The responsible surgeon will make sure that you receive proper care. This may include examination of the wound every week after the operation and a medical examination six weeks later. The British Association of Plastic Surgery (BAPRAS) also warns that not everyone who has had plastic surgery is trained as a plastic surgeon.

The use of polyamplent prosthesis for breast enlargement was banned, after it was discovered that they contain synthetic silicone instead of the used medical fillers and that these implants are at high risk of tearing (splitting).
Is plastic surgery painful?
Plastic surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Patients may need to take morphine for pain relief after some surgeries, and this may be prescribed as a pain reliever for a few days afterward.
