Halston 2021 TV Series
The five episodes of the ‘Halston’ limited series on Netflix came out over the weekend and have created quite a buzz, with viewers watching the series in their thousands. It is based on the life of the fashion designer Halston, but just how close to the true story is this series? Here, we answer the main questions.
Is ‘Halston’ based on a true story?
Roy Halston Frowick was a real person. Known simply as Halston, he shook up the international fashion world in the 1970s with his minimalist designs. This series follows his rise to fame in the industry, so it is largely based on a true story.
What is each episode in ‘Halston’ about?
There are five different episodes in this series. The titles of the various episodes are ‘Becoming Halston’, ‘Versailles’, ‘The Sweet Smell of Success’, ‘The Party’s Over’ and ‘Critics’ and those episode titles could hardly be more explanatory.
The docuseries gradually follows the fashion designer’s rise to prominence and subsequent difficulties. Each episode runs for around 45 minutes.
Who are the characters in ‘Halston’ and who makes up the cast?
There are various famous names in this series, in addition to the lead character. Halston is played by Ewan McGregor and the Scottish actor came in for some criticism for accepting the role, given the pushback against so many straight actors playing gay roles. “If it had been a story about Halston’s sexuality then maybe it’s right that gay actors should play that role,” he said. “But in this case, I suppose ultimately I felt like it was just one part of who he was.”
Other famous characters and actors in the series include Krysta Rodriguez playing Liza Minnelli, Rebecca Dayan playing Elsa Peretti, Jack Mikesell playing John David Ridge, Jeremy Greenbaum playing Ralph Lauren, Kelly Bishop playing Eleanor Lambert and Delphi Harrington playing Betty Ford.
