Chicago Party Aunt 2021 Tv Series Review
The Chicago Party Aunt, a wild, booze-drinking fictional character who emerged on Twitter years ago, is making her animated debut in a new Netflix series.
“Chicago Party Aunt,” which starts streaming Friday, follows the adventures of Diane Dunbrowski, the boisterous namesake of the series, and her nephew Rory O’Malley, who’s taking a gap year before attending Stanford.
The character is the brainchild of writer and actor Chris Witaske, who grew up in St. Charles, Illinois, and worked in Chicago before moving to Los Angeles in 2014. Witaske eventually started writing jokes on Twitter as the Chicago Party Aunt and gained a following online.
After wrangling a creative team of several people with connections to Chicago, Witaske and company pitched the series to Netflix.
“I started the Twitter in 2016, so I had five years of backlogged jokes we could pull from while we were writing the show, so that was nice,” Witaske said. “So we had this strong character developed.”
The first eight episodes of “Chicago Party Aunt” will debut Friday on Netflix. Witaske said the streaming service purchased 16 episodes of the animated series.
